British singer Lily Allen has been handed the perfect swan song to her music career – she picked up two prestigious Ivor Novello awards on Thursday.
The Smile hitmaker, who has announced she is to quit recording and performing live later this year (10), fought back tears as she was awarded prizes for best song musically and lyrically, as well as most performed work – both for her single The Fear.
Other big winners at the songwriting ceremony in London include Scottish singer Paolo Nutini, who won the best album title for Sunny Side Up, and former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, who was handed the inspiration award.
Frankie Goes to Hollywood producer Trevor Horn received the coveted outstanding contribution honour.
